Job description

About us

Looking for a place where your ideas are heard, your strategy shapes real products, and your work directly drives revenue?

Rentman is a B2B SaaS scale-up building smart, powerful resource management software for event and production teams. Our users plan everything from small shoots to massive festivals in 70+ countries — and rely on Rentman to keep their gear, people, and timing perfectly in sync.

We’re based in Utrecht (NL) with a second office in Toronto (CA). Our team is international, we work in English, and our culture is open, direct, and built around ownership.

Mission of this role

We’re looking for a Team Lead UX to bring structure, ownership, and clarity to how design works at Rentman.

You’ll lead the UX team and ensure design actually works within our product development process. That means Product and Engineering can rely on UX, design is consistent and scalable, and work flows through the release train without friction.

This is not a pure management role — you’ll remain hands-on as a designer.

What are you going to do

Lead the team

You’ll lead a team of designers and take responsibility for their performance, growth, and output.

  • Run 1:1s, feedback cycles, and performance management

  • Hire and grow the UX team

  • Set clear expectations and raise the bar

Fix how design works

Design delivery today is inconsistent. You’ll bring structure and predictability.

  • Define UX KPIs and establish a baseline

  • Improve design handoffs and timing

  • Bring structure to planning and capacity

  • Make sure Product and Engineering can rely on UX

Make the design system actually work

The design system exists, but adoption is not where it should be.

  • Increase adoption across Product and Frontend

  • Balance consistency with flexibility for complex workflows

  • Improve collaboration with frontend developers

  • Make it faster to design, prototype, and iterate

You’ll also push for stronger user validation and smarter use of AI in the design process.

What success looks like

Within your first year:

  • Design handoffs are predictable and delivered on time

  • UX KPIs are defined and actively used

  • The design system is widely adopted across Product and Frontend

  • UX work is validated before development

  • The UX team is stable, growing, and performing

Your challenge

  • Step into a product organisation without a clear owner of vision, roadmap, and prioritisation — and fix it

  • Bring structure and direction while maintaining delivery momentum

  • Shift the company from acquisition-led growth to ARPA-driven growth

  • Make customer insight a structural input into product decisions, not an ad hoc exercise

  • Grow the product portfolio without overcomplicating the platform or losing focus

Job requirements

You’re a UX lead who knows how to bring structure without slowing things down.

You likely:

  • Have 3+ years of experience as a UX Lead, Design Lead, or Design Manager

  • Have managed designers and are comfortable holding people accountable

  • Have improved how design works in a product team

  • Understand how Product and Engineering operate in a SaaS environment

  • Are strong in Figma and familiar with design systems

  • Experience using AI tools in design workflows

  • Communicate clearly in English

You are:

  • Hands-on, you still enjoy doing design work

  • Pragmatic; you bring structure without overcomplicating things

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to create clarity

  • Not afraid to challenge Product or Engineering

  • Focused on outcomes, not just output

You probably won’t enjoy this role if:

  • You want a purely strategic or managerial role

  • You need a fully defined structure before you act

  • You avoid difficult conversations or pushback

Bonus experience

  • Experience defining UX KPIs

  • Experience with user research and validation

  • Familiarity with Storybook or component libraries

Basic frontend knowledge (HTML/CSS)

What you’ll get

  • You’ll build a UX function, not maintain one

  • You’ll have real ownership over both people and delivery

  • You’ll work closely with Product and Engineering leadership

  • Your work will directly impact product quality and user experience

  • You’ll grow into a senior design leadership role as Rentman scales

  • An ambitious, inclusive, diverse international team

  • Competitive salary (+8% holiday benefit), based on experience

  • A “13th month” annual bonus based on company results

  • 25 days of paid vacation, plus one extra day off each year up to your 5th anniversary

  • A paid 4-week sabbatical after 5 years to go on an adventure

  • Flexible WFH policy & work from anywhere for 4 weeks a year

  • An annual training budget to boost your skills

  • A pension plan via BrightPensioen

  • Access to OpenUp for mental well-being and personal growth

  • Sports activities (Rentman football team, squash and padel) and an Urban Sports fitness subscription

  • An OV Business card if you live further than 10km away from the office

  • A flexible and engaging work environment with free lunches, office perks (PS5, Ping Pong, D&D), legendary karaoke parties, and various team activities

  • An amazing office in the heart of Utrecht, Netherlands, at the historical Drift 17
